Agra Weather and Climate: Seasonal Variations / When to Go - Agra, India, IN
The weather in Agra is at its sunniest and hottest between April and July, when the climate quickly heats up. You can expect tropical temperatures to regularly exceed 35°C / 95°F and even top 40°C / 104°F at times. To enjoy Agra during in hottest climate, many people choose to take an afternoon siesta, venturing outside of the hotel room early in the morning, and again late in the afternoon and early evening, when much of the city really comes to life. Light cotton clothing is essential and a hat providing shade is always sensible. Also when staying in Agra during the hot weather, be sure to drink plenty of fluids, although do avoid the local water and any ice.
However, from June to August, you can expect monsoon-like rains and this change in the weather is celebrated in Agra's colourful Teej Festival, honouring the Goddess Parvati. Although the level of rainfall increases sharply during this period to over 600 mm / 24 inches, much of the day is dry and the rainy weather usually arrives for just a few hours in the afternoon. Evenings are often fine and the climate feels especially pleasant after a spell of heavy rain.
Whatever the time of year and climate, if you have a chance to visit the Taj Mahal in Agra, you must take it. This unforgettable monument will always impress, with the peak tourist seasons in Agra falling between January and April, and again from September to the middle of December.
